An exclusive, innovative solution to an age-old problem

These rugged junction boxes are specifically designed to protect sensitive circuitry from damage caused by moisture. Because junction boxes are usually installed in harsh environments where exposure to the elements, humidity and extreme temperature swings are not uncommon, condensation often forms in the enclosure resulting in calibration shifts and erratic scale performance...until now.

With an innovative TuffSeal junction box in place, moisture has no place to go. Its unique design inhibits moisture ingress and facilitates installation and load cell trimming. The TuffSeal junction boxes are available in a stainless steel enclosure for floor scales, a Fiberglass Reinforced Polyester (FRP) mid-range enclosure for tank and hopper scales or remote mounting, and an FRP enclosure for truck scales. Four-channel models are available with excitation or signal trim, and offer expansion capability to parallel multiple junction boxes. The 8-channel model for truck scales also features an expansion port as well as an option for transient protection.

Each TuffSeal model has a unique closure design to seal out moisture.The stainless junction box features a special flanged lip design with screws attached on the flanged lip, not directly into the box. Now, water can’t leak in through the screw openings. A special gasketing material covers the inside of the lid and creates a seal when the screws are tightened. The FRP box has a slightly raised ridge on the edge of the box. The lid’s seal fits tightly over this ridge to prevent moisture ingress.

For applications requiring flexible conduit, an optional coupling for the FRP junction boxes guards against water ingress through the cable connection. The Tuff Link coupling is bonded to the load cell cable cord grip. Flexible conduit can be inserted into the coupling which is tightened around the conduit. An opening for a second load cell cable is also sealed with a liquid-tight snap-in grommet. The board itself has a conformal coating for further corrosion protection.

Design innovations don’t stop at the enclosure. Available with excitation or signal trim, the boards are clearly marked to avoid confusion. If fewer than four load cells are required for an application, simply adjust the shunt jumpers to remove the cell from the circuit. For multiple cell systems, an expansion port on the main board accommodates connections.

The 8-channel TuffSeal junction box is available with transient protection option. The board is easily installed, and should the board be damaged, it can be easily replaced.
